[livejournal.com profile] elapses just posted this on her journal and i think it is possibly the best lj meme i've seen. plus i've been really bad at updating and at being on lj in general. so yes, have at it!

Here's how it's going to work:
1. You ask me a question. Any question, no matter how random and/or inappropriate.
2. I answer it and ask you a question of the same type.
3. You answer that question and I ask you another question.
4. Et cetera, ad infinitum. Or until we get sick of it. You know, whatever.

This is a great meme. Even though it's basically "have a conversation", lulz.

If you want to help me write my paper: What are some examples of kink things showing up in mainstream media? Like safewords, handcuffs, that kind of thing. Where they have been assimilated to some extent, not solely as a gag (pun!).

If you don't: I bought Pillsbury biscuits at the store today, would you like to come over and help me eat them sometime this week? (Idk what counts as a "same type of question" to this but pretty much wevs is fine?)

uh idk. rihanna's "s&m"? svu? maybe some gaga?

i think you already know the answer to that question. idk when i'll be free though :/

this is super general, but what's your favorite thing in pop culture right now?

I'm writing on two of those - I'm thinking more along the lines of in a sitcom or something? Or ways of talking about consent/negotiation, or how the boundaries of acceptable sex are widening? Idk. I think I have this idea and perspective about how these things are mainstreaming but I can't think of concrete examples.

Favorite thing right now or pop culture right now? I'm not watching any new media or listening to new music (I'm listening to Tori Amos, which is new to me but straight out of the 90's). I discovered metafandom and old buffyverse fic (circa 2005) a week or so ago and that's a fun huge timesuck. But it's also not strictly pop culture. Idk, I'm so out of touch. I like making Occupy jokes (Occupy Bistro! Occupy Olin!) whenever there are a big group of people standing around with no distinct purpose, maybe that counts.

What's *your* favorite thing in pop culture right now? And because that's a cop out question, what's one piece of pop culture that you wish would immediately go far far away?

it's not really pop culture i guess but i have been obsessed with homestuck *___* and i keep seeing qt klaine clips/gifs that make me want to start watching glee again but ugh i cannot deal with that show when it isn't about them. so i guess that kind of counts for your second question? although really if i could vanish anything it would be katy perry :| there isn't anything about her that doesn't annoy me. although i will say that her music is good pop - sadly my distaste for her overrides it and i'll always take covers of the originals.

Pretty much how I feel about Glee. All the adults except Sue need to just leave the show, and just getting rid of Rachel and Finn would make the show 80% more interesting. (also, Brittany meta?)

What's the most meaningful compliment you've ever received?

Date: 2011-12-05 08:18 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] misters.livejournal.com
lol oh god, i have no idea. i don't really remember compliments? although tbh i think maybe the best "compliment" i've received is being picked by my big - she's quite possibly the best person i know, and the way our matching system works means that i was either her first or second choice. so, idk, that's just really flattering.

what's the happiest you've ever felt?

Date: 2011-12-06 03:57 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] elapses.livejournal.com
Hmm! That's really hard. Idk about happiest ever, but a couple of moments of my life I have really loved are this figure skating exhibition I did when I was 12 (my first step out part!), umm everything about Paris when I was 15... actually every trip I've ever taken, esp the ones by myself, stand out as a high point -- except London sort of, lol high school drama.

I know you're pretty close to your sister, but do you consider yourself close to the rest of your family?

aw i'm jealous, i haven't gone anywhere exciting :( that's so cool though, you're so ~worldly~ haha

not...really? i have a good relationship with both of my parents, my mom moreso than my dad, but we're never going to be friends really. it's just not part of our dynamic.

what is your family like? i just realized i don't even know if you have any siblings, ha

lol not really, PARIS AND LONDON ARE BASICALLY THE ONLY PLACES I'VE BEEN OFF-CONTINENT, i feel like i am generally pretty solidly in the middle on wordliness.

i am the oldest of four kids! i have two sisters (hannah and sophie, 20 and 12), and a brother (rhodes, 16 and the worst). my parents are technically but not practically (like they still live together and act married idek) divorced.

do you have a best friend?

Date: 2011-12-13 03:14 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] misters.livejournal.com
yes well i've never been off-continent. but fingers crossed for galway next year!

i do! her name is katie ([livejournal.com profile] yangwang) and i've known her since we were in first grade. and now we go to college together and are basically bestest buds etc

i'm really curious about what your parents are like now - maybe not how they are personally, but i guess what it was like growing up in a house where they were divorced-but-not? idk, share to your comfort level.

this is not a question but your icon is probably the most gorgeous and perfect thing I have ever seen in my life, good lord.

as for the question, hmm. have you declared your major yet?

From: [identity profile] misters.livejournal.com
right? marceline/bubblegum forever (also marcel/prince bubblegum, heh)

i have! i'm currently a women's and gender studies major with a religious studies minor, but i'll probably do an english minor too (and forever regret that i didn't double major in wgs/english, fndkslag)

what's the best class you've taken?

Date: 2011-12-12 11:40 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] nautisch.livejournal.com
wow I might have to look around for some at icons like yours, they are gorgeous *______* and hee genderflipped characters are the greatest ;;

wow two minors? that's...really devoted. but all of those topics sound really interesting and fun, so :\

um this is really geeky of me, but last semester I took a class called race, nation, and baseball, which was taught by a politics teacher and sort of a mix of baseball, history, american studies, and ethnic studies? the entire class was filled with baseball/sports nerds (like me lol) and despite the general stereotype about sports fans being stupid and prejudiced everyone really subverted that. I didn't realize how much I took it for granted until I got to germany and the other americans on my program can do really "casually" racist or sexist things (or even just ignorant things) and more often that not no one challenges it.

on the flip side, who was the worst teacher you took a class with?

I haven't really watched enough of AT to legitimately be able to say this but I'm pretty sure the genderswap episode is my favorite.

Religious studies was actually a poor choice :/ it's 4 credits besides the methodology class and 2 of those credits have to be Christianity which is not even close to being the most interesting religion to me. If I had time I would do an English double major instead, but oh well.

That sounds really interesting! I love interdisciplinary classes like that, I feel like they're so much better than single-discipline classes

Actually it was my Religion in America class from this semester :| he's a really sweet guy and I like him as a person and as a chaplain but as a professor.... His class was really poorly organized and there was literally no reason to do the homework because every class was basically a review session of what we'd read the night before. I'm friends with about 7 other people in the class and literally everybody hated it.

Why did you choose to go to the school you did? If you could go back would you change it?

LOOK AT ME FAILING TO DO SHIT DURING FINALS WEEK. and omg another amazing adventure time icon where do you get these ;;

aw the topic of that class sounds interesting (although I can't take religious studies classes without breaking things) although I've definitely been in that situation where a teacher just ruins it. that sucks though :(

at the time I was applying to college, what I really, really wanted was to get as far away from home as possible. not because I hate my family or anything, but I just really wanted to live somewhere more...interesting. and warm, potentially. I really love the american west, it's just so so beautiful, so I tried to look at schools there and in st. louis and washington dc, two cities I love. I got a really good tour at what ended up being my college so I chose it despite not getting any financial aid which was a stupid decision, but that's what I did lol. my high school was also very nerdy and I looooved it, but there were parts of it that I wanted to get away from and I thought that applying to different schools than my peers would get me away from that. I also wanted to see if I could function in a "normal" school setting as opposed to a geeky one. and I was wrong about that, lol. most of the things I wanted to get away from ended up being the things I missed painfully my first semester, and I found out that I didn't really like normal people. eventually I found equally weird people there and I settled in, but if it weren't for my major being only available there and those few friends I would have transferred in a heartbeat. omg cool story bro I'm so sorry.

what were your life aspirations in middle/high school and have they changed?

From: [identity profile] misters.livejournal.com
all of my at icons are from [livejournal.com profile] partyhard, which is a really amazing comm for cartoon/anime graphics. highly recommended :D

it was frustrating because it was all about the history of religion (aka christianity) in america, when i wanted to discuss more contemporary things. i feel like america has a really fascinating relationship with religion/magic but i have yet to find a class that actually addresses that.

lol okay i always feel like a loser saying this but i don't really...have.....goals......... idk, i've never had any sort of ~dream -- well, okay, that's not true, my dream is to basically be a college student forever and get paid for it. learning is hands-down my favorite thing in the world to do. when i was younger i wanted to be a research psychologist, which is still something i'm sort of interested in (more the research than the psychology though), but mostly i've come to realize that i just want to be involved in academia in some way. it's intimidating to think about having to actually write articles and demonstrate that i'm intelligent when i'd rather just sit around and learn from other people, but it's better than any other option that i can think of.

if you could live anywhere, where would you live?
