I had this song on repeat for about two hours straight on Thursday. it's really fantastic, the Cold War Kids need to be more well-known. I interpret it as written from the perspective of a higher being punishing these people who are reasonably well off and who pat themselves on the back for giving to people who need it, but they give to make themselves feel better/less guilty as opposed to doing it out of any goodwill. (which has been my reaction to a lot of the people giving to Haiti, by the way. where was all that money when people were dying in civil wars?) the whole thing has this really mocking, cruel tone that I love.
