HELLO CHILDREN DID YOU MISS ME don't lie I know you didn't :( WELL I'M BACK NOW AND UPDATING YOU ON THE PAST THREE DAYS.
so. Saturday was typical blah blah airport flight stuff except there was an OMG SO CUTE baby behind us in line who was being a total sweetheart so we were having fun making faces at her. flight was surprisingly stress-free--no bumps at all!--especially since I had a new book with which to occupy myself. it is called Do You Think What You Think You Think?: The Ultimate Philosophical Handboook by Julian Baggini and Jeremy Stangroom and I pretty much creamed my pants when I saw it in Powell's. it makes me so happy, you don't even KNOW. Do-It-Yourself Deity is my favorite, I think. then we came home and watched Fawlty Towers, which, while it is fantastic, always gives me a headache because it is so frustrating to watch, so I ended up going to bed early.
then on Sunday we watched Best In Show (highly recommended, even though it's got a pretty obvious plot) and went to a park over by my grandparents' house to celebrate my grandpa's birthday (which was technically on Saturday)--he's 79 now! (somebody remind me in the future to meta on how lucky I am that all of my grandparents are--technically--still alive and how utterly weird it is to imagine any of them being gone.) so that was fun even though my arms got horribly burned :( then we came home and watched Push; I liked what I saw of it, but for some reason I had a panic attack in the middle of it (I think it was a combination of having had to much to eat and then it being really hot inside and all the loudness of the movie and etc.) so I had to go outside and walk around for like half an hour before I could calm down enough to come back inside. but I felt much better afterwards.
today we went to San Francisco, which is always fun. we went to North Beach first and wandered around for a while before we found The Beat Museum, which was pretty cool. idk much about the movement still but Claire and Dad really liked it--Claire was going on about how much she loves Allen Ginsburg, whose name I have never heard her mention before now; I really hope she's not as much of a poseur as she always seems to be, but whatever, I'm not the one who's going to come off as a pretentious asshole in the long runfor that reason--and then we went over to City Lights, which was actually just across the street. I bought a copy of Oscar Wilde'sThe Importance of Being Earnest (which came with two other minor plays of his) and then smacked myself for not just waiting to go back to Portland and find a copy for a tenth of the price at the City of Books. (question: does anyone else call it that? I like distinguishing it from the more normal Powell'ses, but maybe it makes me sound weird...?) then we got back in the car and drove over to Haight, where we went to a fantastic cafe called The Pork Store Cafe (or something; it closed at 3:30 and we got in at 3:10!) and I had the best restaurant scrambled eggs I have ever had (plus bacon and hash browns and toast). it was delicious. then we walked around and window shopped some more and went to a music store where I got a book of bass scales and one of three-hole-punched sheet music for Music Theory next year (idk if I'll actually need it, but I figure it can't hurt) aaaaaaaaaaaand then we went home. I slept in the car (which is semi-unusual) and Claire took a picture of me and set it as the desktop on this computer :|
and that has been my week thus far!
additional notes: my dad's girlfriend (whom we still have not met, boo hiss) got him the really nice complete set of Calvin & Hobbes, so I've been reading that lately, and it's funny how I remember all the comics thus far (I'm halfway through the second book). like there hasn't been one yet that I was like WHOA I'VE NEVER SEEN THAT BEFORE. quality work, that. also in "talk to you", that last thing Jonghyun says before the chorus? yeah, what is that? because it sounds like either "let me tickle it" or "let me take a leak," neither of which is particularly pleasant to imagine him doing.

Date: 2009-07-28 05:04 am (UTC)I call it that. The Powell's here went out of business, so my sister and I are abstaining from buying any books. That connection made more sense in my head.
I want that shirt.
AND I LOVE THAT SONG.
